So..here we are again..back online and showing the guitar show that happened on 11-7-09 at the Valley Forge Convention Center. This show seemed bigger and much better attended than the summer show a few months ago. I bought a few items this time (Roland Gt 10 and some doodads) So here are my pics and lets take a random spin around the floor. I mainly focus on the jazz stuff...or unusual. If I skipped a booth, just know that all it had were Les Pauls and strats. I skipped some..but include some also..LETS GO ALREADY! Above is a Gibson 150? Its a thick looking 335. I had one in the 70s, and it worked fine. Had a great blues sound and a master vol. Not a bad axe. dSomeone couldn't wait to hack up this 175 with a Bigsby. Gotta love it! Nice display above...those 175s are from the early 60s and late 50s. The one on the right was $12k and the other blond was around 6k. I played a 62 at the show, (not above) and could not believe how 'chinsy' it felt. I have some newer ones that felt more 'real' than the real one. It was very unexpected. I had a 63 that was awesome, but the 62 they had felt cheap (was 10k). This 295? was played by Keith Richards ..he is holding it in the pic in the case. dfdI Kept trying to get a clear shot of this...but a cool 3 pup L5. Remember those Antiqua Fenders? I think this guy as ALL of them! This is a bass in a bathtub. Interesting? Here is a Benedetto and is carved. It was made for Howard Paul who was in the booth at the show. He showed me some of the new bravos. They sounded FANTASTIC through his Henriksen jazzamp, but the necks felt strange. They felt like a Korean guitar or something much less expensive. THey didnt have the feel of an archtop..but they sounded great. Even the tiny bodies and the Bambino sounded full through the jazzamp. I think i want a jazzamp now! Here is more bens below:
Larry Wexer from NYC was showing this Byrdland. He always has the real high end stuff. Note those alnicos! Special guest star at the show was former Vice President, Dick Cheney. He was beating the 'Bushes' for a new strat. Actually...i dont know who this is...but I hope you take it as a joke..no harm intended! THis is a Fender Squire DAquisto...I never knew such a thing existed. I have a Schecter/Samick and notice this is exactly the same top..so i guess this is from the Samick factory. I would think this is nothing like the real thing...as shown below: THis is from Lubos Naprstek. He is a REALLY nice guy and is so happy to show you his guitars. I have seen him here before, and he seems to be getting better and better. THe guitar on the right was really stellar. THe details were amazing and looked 'perfect'. His finishes were fabulous too. Check him out. Got Green? L4 and another Byrd. Here is a LP for $38k. I still dont get this stuff. THis is the Clapton guitar...10k. Here is something very cool...i LOVE these old Mosrites. Never had one, but they are the real deal. Big bucks now...these were around $200 buck originally. Again..sorry for the blur...but this booth is new and is by 'Art Guitars'. I also dont include the websites unless i hear from the vendor and they ask me to add it. Otherwise, look him up is you want a paintjob on your guitar. He is up in Allentown and his price starts at around 1k. but that includes stripping the original paint and all the hardware stuff. Not a bad deal. Some of these guitars are covered in fabric. Next time i will get much better pics. Its great to see new folks at this show once in a while. THis was a booth dedicated to Les Paul. They were all his PERSONAL instruments. The ones he actually played and in some cases, made. It was to benefit the Les Paul foundation. One of the highlights of the show. below are some more pics of this booth: Below is not part of the foundation, but just an example of how many les pauls are at these shows:
Here are some resonators, Here is an SRV and next to it was an Eric Clapton (signed). THe SRV was more expensive- 14k vs 12k.
Above gets my vote for the best travel guitar. THis thing was SMALL. Basically just a neck you could stuff in a suitcase But..im glad my travel days are over...and so is this year's show. See you for the summer 2010 show! Come on back or go to my home page and check out shows past!! If u have an interest check out my Woodstock pics..here is one see more at the link charlie x
